Newport Information

Newport is a city on Aquidneck Island in the state of Rhode Island. It is also the county seat of Newport County.

Newport is located approximately 30 miles south of Providence, commonly known as a New England summer resort. During the administrations of Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy, it was the city of the "Summer White Houses".

It is also known for the famous Newport Mansions, Salve Regina University and the naval station which houses the United States Naval War College, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, and a major United States Navy training center. It is known as Naval Station Newport.

Newport contains the highest number of surviving colonial buildings of any city in the United States.
